How to Import Flashcards into Anki

Learn how to import your MemoForge-generated flashcard decks into Anki for desktop and mobile devices.

Before You Begin

  • Make sure you have downloaded your .apkg file from the MemoForge dashboard
  • Install Anki on your device (free for desktop and Android, paid for iOS)
  • Your .apkg file preserves learning progress when updating existing decks

Download Anki Desktop

If you haven't already, download Anki from the official website:

Download your .apkg file

Go to your MemoForge dashboard and click the download button next to your completed deck. The file will be saved with a .apkg extension.

Import the deck

There are two ways to import your deck:

Option A: Double-click the file

Simply double-click the .apkg file. It will automatically open in Anki.

Option B: Import from Anki

  1. Open Anki
  2. Click "File" → "Import"
  3. Navigate to your .apkg file
  4. Click "Open"

Start studying!

Your deck will appear in the Anki main window. Click on the deck name to start studying. Anki will use spaced repetition to optimize your learning.

Import on Mobile

📱 AnkiMobile (iOS)

Note: AnkiMobile is a paid app ($24.99) that supports Anki development.

  1. Download AnkiMobile from the App Store
  2. Download your .apkg file to your iPhone/iPad
  3. Open the file - it will automatically open in AnkiMobile
  4. Tap "Add" to import the deck

🤖 AnkiDroid (Android)

Note: AnkiDroid is free and open-source.

  1. Install AnkiDroid from Google Play
  2. Download your .apkg file to your device
  3. Open AnkiDroid and tap the "+" button
  4. Select "Import file" and choose your .apkg

Sync Across Devices

To study on multiple devices, create a free AnkiWeb account to sync your progress:

  1. Create an account at ankiweb.net
  2. In Anki Desktop: Tools → Preferences → Network → AnkiWeb account
  3. Click the sync button (circular arrows) after importing
  4. Log in with the same account on all your devices

Troubleshooting

My deck is not appearing after import

  • • Check the deck list - it may be under a different name
  • • Try Tools → Check Database in Anki
  • • Ensure the .apkg file downloaded completely

Import fails with an error

  • • Update Anki to the latest version
  • • Try downloading the .apkg file again
  • • Check if you have enough storage space

Cards look different than expected

  • • MemoForge creates optimized card templates
  • • You can customize card appearance in Anki's card browser
  • • Audio cards require internet connection for playback
