What makes these cards worth reviewing
The generator is only useful if the output survives a study session. These are the design choices behind the jlpt n5 japanese deck.
- Kanji or kana on the front
- Reading and rōmaji on the back
- Part of speech and verb class noted
- Polite ます-form shown next to the dictionary form
- は vs. が explained with paired examples
- に vs. で for destination vs. action site
- を, へ, and から drilled inside full sentences
- Romaji only as a crutch, never the front
- Everyday nouns, verbs, and set phrases
- Example sentences kept to N5 grammar
- Politeness level tagged on phrases
- Good first deck before JLPT N4
Frequently asked questions
How jlpt n5 japanese decks work, what to upload, and where the limits are.
Yes. Upload the chapters or handouts you are studying as PDFs and the generator extracts the vocabulary, phrases, and grammar points it finds. Upload only material you have the right to use, and keep the source file so you can check each card against the page it came from.
Yes. Japanese script is preserved on the front of the card, with the reading and rōmaji on the back. If your source gives furigana or a vocabulary list with readings, those become the back of the card rather than being thrown away.
The deck reflects whatever you upload. An N5 textbook produces N5 cards, an N4 grammar workbook produces N4 cards, and a mixed review sheet produces a mixed deck. You can also cap the number of cards if you only want a slice of a long chapter.
They are when your source contains them, and you can ask for them explicitly. Each card in the sample deck keeps the Japanese sentence, the English translation, and a one-line note on the grammar it demonstrates — that pairing is what makes a particle card useful rather than ambiguous.
Put the Japanese form on the front and the reading plus meaning on the back, then let Anki's text-to-speech read the back field aloud. If you enable audio when creating the deck, the target-language text is stored with each card so a TTS field can pick it up after import.
Most decks finish in two to five minutes depending on the page count. You can watch progress in the app, and the deck downloads as a standard .apkg file once it is complete.
Yes. Review, edit, delete, or regenerate individual cards before you download. Beginner decks in particular benefit from trimming: if a card is testing two things at once, split it or drop it.
